Newgrange gains 5/5 food hygiene rating

At a recent inspection of the kitchen and catering facilities, Newgrange was awarded the highest possible rating of 5 out of 5 "very good" by Borough of Broxbourne, Environmental Health.  Alison Wood, registered manager commented that "we are delighted with this assessment and it's a credit to the hard work of the kitchen staff.  We are passionate about providing our residents with high quality food in a safe environment."

Building programme completed and new rooms open

The completion of an extensive building programme has resulted in 13 brand new bedrooms to bring the total to 34.  All the rooms are larger than the minimum size and have been brightly decorated and furnished to a high standard.  Nick Meyer, director commented that "we are very pleased with the finished result having taken an already superb home to even greater heights.  There was minimum disruption to the existing residents as the build was completed in stages and similarly the rooms have been taken quickly by new residents as each stage became available.  Currently there are only two further rooms available."

New rooms and lounge opened

At an uplifting ceremony the new rooms and lounge areas were officially opened. The new lounge now features separate areas for quiet relaxation, music listening, fireside, films, television, and a conservatory. The dining room has also been thoroughly upgraded with new decor, hardwood flooring and modern furniture. Both areas are brightly lit with summer colours, and have extensive windows and doors to allow as much natural light as possible.

Four of the new rooms are now in service and have all been let. Five more will be available by March with a final four due for May. All the rooms are finished to the highest specification being oversized, brightly decorated with quality furniture and include en-suite bathrooms.

All the residents attended the ceremony with family and supporters as guests. Steve Morris from NatWest bank did the honours by cutting the ribbon.

Three star 'excellent' rating confirmed

Further to the unannounced inspection on the 21st July we are delighted to report that the Care Quality Commission (CQC) have confirmed that Newgrange has been awarded a 3 star "excellent service" rating. This is the highest rating that CQC awards and is awarded to only about 10% of all care homes in the country. The Key inspection report states that "the home is very welcoming, safe and homely" and that "residents are very happy living at the home and their needs are met very well". This is a great testament to the quality of the environment and the excellent care given by our staff.

Two new rooms completed

The first two new bedrooms from the Newgrange development programme have been completed, approved by the Care Quality Commission and brought into service. They have been immediately let to two people on the waiting list. Nick Meyer, director said that "these new rooms maintain the excellent accommodation standards of Newgrange, being finished to a high end specification with fresh, bright colours and meet the needs of residents waiting to get a place in the home." Two more rooms are expected to be completed before Christmas and these are already reserved and five further rooms will be available shortly afterwards.

Work starts on new rooms

Two brand new rooms are nearing completion at Newgrange as a major improvement programme gets underway.  The new ensuite single rooms are of a high specification offering excellent standards of privacy and comfort including stylish decoration, quality furniture and flat screen televisions.  Nick Meyer, director said "Newgrange's excellent reputation means that we receive lots of enquiries from potential residents that we are not able to satisfy and the new rooms will enable us to provide care to two more people".  The new rooms are expected to be available in July 2009.

Newgrange under new ownership

On 1 December 2008, after 24 years of continuous ownership, Newgrange was acquired by Shervey Limited, a successful care home operator with a nursing home near Torbay, Devon see www.threecornersch.co.uk. Nick Meyer, director said "We are tremendously excited by this outstanding home and want to continue and indeed build on the superb quality of care that has been given to residents over many years. We are delighted all the existing staff are remaining with the home including the former owner and registered manager Mrs Alison Wood."
